Set against the stunning backdrop of Roxborough State Park’s dramatic red sandstone formations, “Bigfoot Goin’ to Rock The Rox” celebrated its 6th year on June 6, 2026. This family friendly event engaged nearly 500 visitors with educational booths featuring the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace, displays, interactive games, giveaways and a sing-along with the “Sasquatch Singers.”

Over 40 Roxborough volunteers and park staff were involved and throughout the day brought excitement and showed their dedication to protecting this “Gold Standard” site, the first state park in Colorado to achieve this designation back in 2018 and again in 2025.  South Metro Fire was onsite to talk about fire prevention, and high school students received community service hours to participate as mascots for the event.

The highlight of the day was the appearance of Bigfoot himself, who roamed the park alongside Colorado Parks and Wildlife mascot, Elbert the Bighorn Sheep.  The event captured a high-energy atmosphere that was a rockin’ outdoor success and brought the legend of Bigfoot to life not as a mystery of the woods, but as a master and mascot of environmental ethics. 

The Friends of Mueller State Park recently donated two e-Bikes and accessories to help the Rangers traverse the Park without having to use their vehicles. This is actually helping to engage in more conversations with the campers and hikers.
